Breast lift surgery addresses ptosis (sagging) and nipple position, both of which can result from the process of aging or from fluctuations in breast volume such as accompanies pregnancy and nursing. The amount of ptosis present determines the type of breast lift that will be performed.
There are three primary breast lift incision options:
- Circumareolar. Made in the dark skin of the areola, this incision is suitable for minor ptosis
- Lollipop. Made around the nipple with a vertical line to the breast crease, this incision is ideal for moderate ptosis
- Anchor. The same as a lollipop with an additional incision along the breast crease, the anchor incision is best for more pronounced sagging
During breast lift surgery, the breast mound is lifted and firmed, the nipple is repositioned, and loose and sagging skin is excised. These things may have a minor impact on breast size, with many women reporting a decrease of one cup size following the procedure. It is important to note, however, that this is largely a result of less skin around the breasts and not a result of less breast tissue.
Augmentation and Lift
To combat any apparent volume loss or to address issues such as asymmetry or inadequate breast size, it is possible to combine breast augmentation with the lift procedure. With this option, breast implants are placed above or below the muscles in the chest, where they serve to add volume symmetry, and ideal projection to complement your entire upper body.
At Altos Oaks Plastic Surgery, we offer breast augmentation with implants or with fat transfer, a procedure that uses fat from your own body to enhance the size of the breasts. During your time in our care, we will help you determine which option is right for your needs.
