Will Liposuction Remove Belly Fat?
Belly fat is some of the most difficult fat to eliminate through diet and exercise. Even those engaged in athletic pursuits may develop some belly bulk, and crunches alone are often insufficient for melting it away.
Some may turn to pills, diets, and nonsurgical fat melting procedures like CoolSculptingⓇ to tone and sculpt the midsection. These may, however, have only minimal effect on belly fat for some individuals - and this is to say nothing of the risks associated with caloric restriction and weight loss supplements.
But what other options exist?
If you have not been able to safely sculpt and tone your belly through your own effort, the board-certified plastic surgeons at our Los Altos office welcome an opportunity to discuss with you. This method of surgical fat removal enjoys a remarkable safety record and can be used to remove several pounds of bulky, unsightly, and unbecoming fat from nearly any area of your body - including the belly. In fact, the midsection of the body - including the abdominal area, hips, waist, and low back - is one of the most popular liposuction treatment areas. During your initial consultation, we can assess the collection of fat in your abdominal area to help you determine if liposuction will be the most effective option for your needs.
Types of Liposuction
At Altos Oaks Plastic Surgery, we offer both tumescent and power-assisted liposuction (PAL). These lipo techniques allow for the removal of larger deposits of fat while helping to reduce the risk of trauma to surrounding tissue and muscle. However, it should be noted that neither of these liposuction techniques is safe to use as a method of weight loss.
Liposuction is a body contouring procedure designed for people at or near their ideal weight. The best way to determine if liposuction can produce the results you desire is through a private and confidential consultation with one of our experienced and caring plastic surgeons.
Tumescent liposuction and PAL can remove fat from the belly, but cannot address issues such as diastasis recti, the separation of abdominal muscles that occurs during pregnancy or following significant weight gain. This issue will need to be addressed through tummy tuck surgery, which is typically combined with liposuction for optimal toning of the midsection.
How Long Does Recovery Take?
Recovery from liposuction is unique for every individual, but most are able to return to work within a few short days and to resume normal activities within two weeks. More advanced or involved exercises may need to be put off for four to six weeks depending on the area or areas you have had treated along with other factors unique to your body and procedure. We will continue to work with you during your recovery to help ensure your comfort, safety, and satisfaction.
During your initial consultation, we can discuss recovery in greater detail to help you prepare for the days following your liposuction procedure.
